Segun Aina has formally taken over as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede following the completion of his two-term, 10-year tenure.
Aina officially assumed office on Friday during a handover ceremony at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, marking the beginning of a new leadership era for Nigeria’s foremost tertiary admissions examination body.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had announced Aina’s appointment on May 21, 2026. Initially appointed at the age of 39, he has since turned 40, making him the youngest individual ever to occupy the position of JAMB Registrar.
Announcing the appointment earlier, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga described Aina as a respected academic and systems specialist with significant expertise in national examination administration, digital infrastructure and public-sector institutional reforms.
Speaking shortly after taking office, Aina pledged to uphold the credibility and transparency that have defined JAMB in recent years while expanding the use of technology to curb examination malpractice.
He issued a stern warning to individuals involved in examination fraud, urging them to desist from the practice.
“Their business is in a wrong institution,” he declared.
The new registrar also reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of its examinations and ensure that admission processes remain credible and transparent nationwide.
