The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has granted candidates with unresolved admission offers dating from 2021 another 30 days to regularise their status, setting September 30, 2026, as the final deadline.
The extension gives affected candidates additional time to either accept or reject admission offers that have remained pending on the Board’s records.
JAMB had previously announced August 31 as the deadline for candidates offered admission from 2021 to date to indicate their decisions.
However, announcing the extension on Saturday, the Board, through its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the September 30 deadline would be final, with no further extension expected.
JAMB warned that any admission offer that remains neither accepted nor rejected after the new deadline would automatically be changed to “Not Admitted” in its database.
The Board therefore advised all candidates with outstanding offers, including regular and Centralised University Information Admission (CUIIA) offers, to take action before the deadline rather than wait until the final days.
Candidates who choose to accept their outstanding offers will be able to proceed with printing their admission letters and completing the necessary admission formalities.
Those who no longer intend to take up the offers are expected to reject them through their respective dashboards. Their admission status will subsequently revert to “Not Admitted”, allowing JAMB to reconcile its records.
The Board also addressed situations involving candidates whose academic circumstances have changed since they received their earlier admission offers.
According to JAMB, candidates who are no longer attending the institutions to which they were previously admitted, or who are currently studying different programmes, may accept their outstanding admission offers and subsequently seek the appropriate correction or deletion of the records where necessary.
The arrangement, it explained, is intended to ensure that candidates’ records accurately reflect their current academic circumstances.
JAMB also said candidates already pursuing a second degree but who still have an earlier unaccepted admission offer can reject the old offer and continue with their current programme.
Similarly, candidates who have obtained admission during the ongoing 2026 admission exercise but still have an outstanding offer from an earlier year can reject the old offer without affecting their current admission.
The Board said the extension forms part of its efforts to clean up the national admission database and eliminate outdated or unresolved admission offers.
It stressed that accurate admission records are essential to maintaining transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
JAMB urged all affected candidates to act promptly, warning that failure to accept or reject their outstanding offers by September 30 would result in the offers being invalidated and recorded permanently as “Not Admitted”.
The Board reiterated that September 30, 2026, is the final deadline, urging candidates not to expect any additional extension.
