Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week official vacation after receiving the approval of President Bola Tinubu, marking his first leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The development was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, who said the break is intended to provide an opportunity for study, reflection and strategic preparation for the next phase of governance.
According to the statement, the vacation will enable Shettima to engage in intellectual renewal and broaden his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues as the Federal Government intensifies implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Nkwocha explained that the Vice President would use the period to assess ongoing government programmes and strengthen his capacity to contribute more effectively to national development.
He noted that since taking office more than three years ago, Shettima has maintained an active schedule, coordinating major government initiatives across key sectors, including economic growth, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, employment generation and regional cooperation.
The statement also highlighted Shettima’s leadership as Chairman of the National Economic Council, where he works closely with state governors, the Central Bank Governor and other senior government officials to formulate policies aimed at improving Nigeria’s economy and the welfare of citizens.
On the international stage, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at several regional and global engagements, advancing Nigeria’s positions on economic integration, investment, climate action, peace, security and sustainable development. He also stood in for the President at major international forums, including G20 and AU-EU meetings, during periods when Tinubu remained in the country to oversee critical national assignments.
Nkwocha reaffirmed that Shettima remains committed to supporting the administration’s goals and delivering on its vision for national progress.
The Vice President is expected to conclude the vacation and resume official duties on or around August 20, 2026.
