Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to immediately implement the Oronsaye Committee Report if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Atiku made the commitment in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, arguing that the report offers a practical framework for reducing duplication, waste and the high cost of running government.
The former vice president criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to fully implement the recommendations of the report, despite earlier assurances that it would do so.
Atiku also alleged that the current administration had created additional government agencies, including institutions he described as illegitimate, instead of streamlining the existing structure.
He said his administration would begin the process immediately after inauguration with a comprehensive audit of government agencies to determine their mandates, relevance and areas of overlap.
“I will eliminate unnecessary government agencies, merge overlapping institutions, cut the cost of governance, plug leakages and redirect savings to healthcare, education, infrastructure, jobs and social protection,” Atiku said.
He further pledged to lead by example by reducing the cost of maintaining the presidency and other government officials, insisting that Nigerians should not be subjected to economic sacrifices while public resources are being wasted.
According to him, his administration would prioritise efficiency, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
“Nigeria does not need more promises. Nigeria needs action,” he said, adding that the goal would be to build a leaner and more efficient government where a greater proportion of public funds directly benefits citizens.
