The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, ruling out the possibility of fielding its own flag bearer for the contest.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, announced the decision while clarifying why APGA did not upload the name of a presidential candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
According to Opara, the absence of a presidential candidate on the portal should not be misconstrued as non-compliance with electoral regulations, stressing that the move was a deliberate decision taken by the party’s leadership.
He explained that following extensive consultations, APGA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) unanimously resolved to support President Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, describing the decision as one made in the overall interest of Nigeria.
Opara maintained that despite not presenting a presidential candidate, APGA remains fully engaged in the 2027 electoral process.
He disclosed that the party has successfully submitted the names of its candidates for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly elections through the INEC nomination portal.
“We have not uploaded a presidential candidate because the National Executive Committee of the party has already taken a decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Opara stated.
The endorsement makes APGA one of the political parties backing President Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
