The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the NDC.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday when he received members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.
The former Kano State governor urged Atiku, a former Vice President, to step aside in favour of the NDC presidential ticket, assuring him that he would be accommodated if the party emerges victorious in the election.
“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition leaders and political groups to forge a common front against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku remains one of the prominent opposition politicians seeking to contest the presidency in 2027 under the platform of the ADC.
Kwankwaso and the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had previously been associated with the ADC before announcing their departure from the party in May.
They reportedly cited internal disagreements and legal disputes as reasons for their decision to leave the coalition.
