The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to mobilise workers nationwide to press for a comprehensive review of the national minimum wage, saying organised labour is prepared to intensify its campaign for better welfare for workers and retirees.
The union also vowed to push for the introduction of a national minimum pension, arguing that pensioners should benefit from the same welfare reforms extended to serving workers.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made the declaration on Sunday during the inauguration of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners Legacy House and Multipurpose Hall in Abuja.
According to Ajaero, the labour movement has begun preparations for what he described as an ideological and economic struggle aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerian workers and pensioners in the face of mounting economic hardship.
He stressed that the campaign would focus on securing a new minimum wage that reflects current economic realities, while ensuring that retirees are protected through a guaranteed national minimum pension.
