The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its investigation into allegations surrounding the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed on Monday that the presidential aide honoured the commission’s invitation and provided a statement to investigators in compliance with President Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive probe into the matter.
According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the ICPC headquarters at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, where he answered questions relating to the investigation before returning to his official duties.
The investigation stems from allegations made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the PFIPC. Adeyemi alleged that he paid Gbajabiamila N400 million to facilitate his appointment as head of the agency.
He also accused the Chief of Staff of demanding a 48 per cent share of the agency’s proposed N27.3 billion take-off grant.
Adeyemi further claimed that his dealings with Gbajabiamila were facilitated through the late Babatunde Tanimola and suggested that the circumstances surrounding Tanimola’s death should also be investigated.
Gbajabiamila has firmly denied all the allegations, describing them as false and defamatory. He subsequently instituted a N15 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi.
Following the exchange of accusations, President Tinubu ordered the ICPC to investigate the claims and submit its findings within 30 days.
Ogunye said his client fully cooperated with investigators throughout the process.
“In full cooperation with the ICPC acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the PFIPC fake agency, among others,” the lawyer said.
He added that Gbajabiamila gave his testimony, answered all questions put to him by investigators and thereafter resumed his official responsibilities.
