Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for all categories of public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The directive, announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, applies to workers in the state civil service, local government councils, tertiary institutions, and other public establishments. According to the statement, the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, has issued a circular notifying affected workers of the decision.
Governor Adeleke said the measure is aimed at encouraging eligible voters within the public service to fulfill their civic responsibility by obtaining their PVCs, which are required for participation in the forthcoming governorship election and future electoral exercises.
The circular, however, exempted personnel providing essential services, including healthcare workers and security agencies, directing them to make internal arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery and safeguard public welfare.
The governor also appealed to residents, particularly registered voters in both the formal and informal sectors, to take advantage of the ongoing PVC collection exercise without delay. He stressed that broad participation in the election would strengthen democracy and shape the future of Osun State.
Describing the PVC as the gateway to the ballot, Adeleke urged citizens to visit designated collection centres and exercise their constitutional right to vote.
“Your vote is your power. Your Permanent Voter Card is your access to the ballot and your opportunity to determine the future of our state,” the governor said.
