Reps Suspend Own State Police Bill, Adopt Tinubu’s Executive Draft

The House of Representatives has suspended consideration of its proposed constitutional amendment bill on the establishment of state police, opting instead to adopt the Executive-sponsored version submitted by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision was reached during Tuesday’s plenary, where lawmakers swiftly passed the Executive bill through its first and second readings. The legislation was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative consideration.

By giving priority to the Executive’s proposal, the House has effectively put its own state police bill on hold in a move aimed at streamlining the legislative process.

The committee is expected to conduct a detailed review of the bill, examining its provisions and recommending necessary amendments before it returns to the House for further debate and final passage.
