Vice President Kashim Shettima has travelled to Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The trip was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
The summit, taking place at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, will bring together West African leaders, ministers, senior government officials, business executives and other regional stakeholders to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the sub-region.
Key areas on the agenda include regional peace and security, democratic governance, economic integration, trade, infrastructure development and sustainable growth.
According to the statement, the meeting forms part of ECOWAS’ statutory mid-year engagements and will provide member states with an opportunity to assess progress on regional initiatives, strengthen cooperation and adopt policies aimed at addressing shared challenges.
The gathering is also expected to produce strategic resolutions to enhance stability, promote economic collaboration and deepen regional integration across West Africa.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements at the summit.
