President Bola Tinubu has hailed the successful rescue of 308 abducted Nigerians from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the country’s ongoing fight against kidnapping and insecurity.
The victims, who were rescued during a coordinated intelligence-led operation, included 163 persons abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others kidnapped in different parts of Niger State.
The operation, conducted in the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State, involved personnel of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Presidency, the mission represents the largest number of kidnapped victims rescued in a single operation by the joint security team, underscoring the effectiveness of enhanced collaboration among the nation’s security agencies.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the courage, professionalism and commitment of the security personnel who executed the operation.
“The successful execution of this intelligence-driven mission reflects the growing efficiency, coordination and determination of our security services,” the President said.
“I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and freedom of Nigerians.”
The rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and medical attention at the Wawa Cantonment medical facility before being reunited with their families through their respective state governments after necessary health evaluations.
While celebrating the successful operation, President Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at preventing future abductions by strengthening intelligence gathering, improving early warning systems and enhancing rapid response mechanisms across vulnerable communities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the fight against criminal elements, protecting citizens and restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
The President also assured Nigerians that his government would continue investing in stronger security architecture and inter-agency cooperation to ensure that criminal networks are dismantled and communities across the nation remain safe.
