The Federal Government is preparing to further increase the salaries of personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve their welfare and boost morale, the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has disclosed.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, President Bola Tinubu is expected to announce the new salary package in the coming weeks, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of military personnel.
Musa said the planned pay review builds on previous reforms aimed at enhancing the welfare of troops serving across the country.
Reflecting on his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, the minister recalled that the monthly salary for soldiers was increased from N49,000 to N100,000, describing the adjustment as a significant milestone in improving conditions of service.
He added that the government is already working on another upward review to ensure military personnel receive better remuneration.
“A few weeks ago, I stated that soldiers are now earning N100,000. When I served as Chief of Defence Staff, they were receiving N49,000,” Musa said.
“About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to N100,000, and that was achieved. We are now making further efforts to secure another salary increase for our troops.”
The proposed salary adjustment is expected to form part of broader initiatives by the Tinubu administration to strengthen the welfare, motivation, and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces as they continue to confront security challenges across the country.
