The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has intensified its criticism of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, describing its performance as inadequate and expressing confidence that the party will return to power in the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, the Ogun PDP Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, said the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government had failed to meet the expectations of residents, particularly in education, healthcare, rural development and local government administration.
Tella argued that effective governance begins at the grassroots, stressing that local governments must be empowered to deliver meaningful services. He maintained that the last PDP administration strengthened local councils and pledged that the party would restore local government autonomy if elected in 2027.
He also accused the state government of concentrating development projects around Abeokuta while neglecting rural communities. According to him, the administration’s performance in critical sectors, including education and infrastructure, falls short of public expectations.
Despite his criticism, Tella acknowledged the completion of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, describing it as the government’s most significant accomplishment. He, however, noted that the project was initiated during the administration of former Governor Gbenga Daniel.
On workers’ welfare, the PDP chairman alleged that pensioners had been neglected, promising that a future PDP government would prioritise the prompt payment of pensions and gratuities while clearing outstanding arrears.
Tella also declared that the PDP had overcome its internal challenges and was now united ahead of the next electoral cycle. He further claimed that several influential politicians currently outside the party, including Governor Abiodun, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and former Governor Gbenga Daniel, began their political careers in the PDP and could eventually return.
Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Tella said the PDP was fully mobilised for the 2027 governorship contest and confident of reclaiming power in Ogun State.
