Presidential spokesman and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and is focused on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
In a statement shared on his X account, Onanuga said Musa continues to drive the administration’s defence agenda and remains dedicated to delivering improved security across the country.
“General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy, with results already being seen,” he stated.
The Presidency’s clarification follows widespread speculation that the defence minister had concluded plans to leave office.
Musa had earlier dismissed the reports during a briefing with State House correspondents after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
He described the resignation claims as fabricated, stressing that he had never discussed stepping down with anyone and warning that those behind the false reports could face legal action.
President Tinubu appointed Musa as Minister of Defence in December 2025 following the resignation of his predecessor, Mohammed Abubakar. Since assuming office, the retired general has overseen the government’s efforts to tackle security challenges across the country.
